Green Deal Promises Cash Back

The Green Deal due to launch in October 2012 is promising Cash back for early adopters. The government has been dropping big hints that it will use some of the 200 Million ear marked as seed money for the green deal will be funnelled into a cash back incentive scheme.

There has been speculation that the uptake of the Green Deal will be slow to start, but commentators are quite to note that as soon as early adopters begin to evangelise the benefits of the initiative will take off. It was reported by Business Green that the Government is keen to make the cash back offer to kick start the scheme, precise details of the offer are still not clear.

Judging by the reaction that we have been getting through this website there is plenty of demand to upgrade older properties with better insulation and modern efficient heating. The public do seem keen on the Green Deal, or at least those who know about the scheme.

The Governments two biggest obstacles that could scupper the initiative are that the loans won’t be low enough for people to really think it’s worth the agro and the fact that there is little ‘belief’ within the Government its self. In this Olympic year we have read a lot about what makes a champion and the difference between a success and failure is the simple fact of belief. It would be fantastic if the Government as a whole could get behind this initiative and really push the Green Deal. The bare bones of an innovative way to improving our aging housing stock is there and it won’t take such a herculean effort to make this a storming success.
