Ground Source Heat Pumps
What are Ground Source Heat Pumps?
The Green Deal will incorporate Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPS) which are low carbon heat generators. They work by pumping a mixture of water and antifreeze around a circular pipe system which is buried underground. The liquid absorbs heat from the ground and maintains a temperature of around 13-15°C. This can then be used to heat radiators, underfloor heating and to heat water. Ground Source Heat Pumps offer a variety of benefits which make it an ideal Green Deal tool.
3 Advantages of using Ground Source Heat Pumps
- Ground Source Heat Pumps are a renewable and more energy efficient way of heating properties, offering both financial and green benefits.
- The Green Deal aims to lower carbon emissions and it is calculated that the average Ground Source Heat Pump saves around 1.8 tonnes of carbon emissions on a yearly basis.
- Ground Source Heat Pumps do not require gas or oil to operate as they run on electricity. This makes them ideal for badly connected areas.
